G-CAPE Placement Guide for German
When you have completed the German Computer Assisted Placement Examination, you should use the following guide when you consider your decision about placement into a German course. Typically, two (or sometimes three) years of German in high school may only represent the material contained in the first year of the German 101/102 sequence at Miami. After considering both your high school preparation in German as well as the results of this examination, any doubts or questions concerning your placement should be considered with the assistance of an adviser. If you take the G-CAPE during New Student Orientation, an adviser will be available for your questions at times indicated in your Orientation materials. If you take the G-CAPE sometime during the academic year, consult with Professor Siebenhar (162 Irvin) or Professor Jeep (134 Irvin) in the German Department concerning your placement.
- Remember: after you are placed, you may not skip a course in the sequence leading to Ger 202.
- Self-placement below the level indicated by this guide without consultation with and adviser is not permitted.
To find your suggested placement, choose either "Choice A" or "Choice B" according to your preparation in German. Then find the score you got after completing the G-CAPE . You will find your suggested registration to the right of your score category on the grid below. Since your individual situation may not fit easily into the grid, you are encouraged to speak with an adviser even if the "Suggested Registration" does not suggest it.
Consult the course descriptions in the Bulletin or in your Guidebook for New Students.
In any case, ask an adviser if you have doubts.
