CALICO (Computer Assisted Language Instruction Consortium)

Conference Technical Associate, August 2001 – Present.

  • Assist and advise the CALICO Board of Director on technical needs and organizational plans for conferences at national universities and colleges.
  • Accompany the Board of Directors on site visits to potential conference sites.
  • Assist fellow technical assistants in the preparation, distribution, and implementation of technologies during annual conferences.

Miami University, Oxford, Ohio

Director of Interactive Language Resource Center, August 1998 – Present .
  • Headed daily operations of a Language Resource Center and its related facilities.
  • Managed a staff of six-eight undergraduate and two graduate students.
  • Served as a liaison to several organizations within Miami University, namely, the College of Arts and Science, Miami Computing and Information Services, the Provost’s Office, and several service offices on the Oxford Campus.
  • Served as a team participant in benchmarking initiatives, administrative restructuring, departmental candidate interviews, bulk purchase initiatives, and technical services groups.
  • Headed a $102,000 major renovation to the facility in May 2002.
  • Awarded funding to development and maintain the Montgomery File Server Project, a Macintosh server system to broadcast and distribute foreign language learning materials, video, and audio via the internet.
  • Developed computer assisted language learning applications and associated administrative computing solutions for Faculty and Staff in the Department of Classics, Department of French and Italian, Department of German, Russian and East Asian Languages, and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Maintained Web Site for the Interactive Language Resource Center and assisted language departments in the upgrading and information updating of their web sites.
  • Maintained hardware and software for new Macintosh learning classroom used by language departments.
  • Provided PC and Macintosh technical support to faculty and staff in the language department as well as to colleagues and divisional technical support representatives in the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Led lab facilities orientations for new faculty and graduate students each semester.
  • Instructed individual faculty and staff in new computer software applications and administrative procedures relating to technological integration of Miami University.
