Problems Streaming QuickTime Movies to Windows XP Users

In the process of upgrading the ILRC's servers over winter break in December 2003, the QuickTime Streaming services that the ILRC provides is now located on a dedicated ethernet address and thus the ILRC can now stream video through port 80.

By doing this, the previous problems of having to disable the Windows XP firewall on client computers can be avoided.

To get QuickTime on Windows XP to stream through port 80 now, follow these steps:

1) Open up the QuickTime Settings control Panel by going to START -> CONTROL PANEL -> QUICKTIME SETTINGS.

2) In the pull-down box, select STREAMING TRANSPORT (see graphic below).

3) In the STREAMING TRANSPORT settings, select either "Automatically determine best protocol" or select "Use HTTP" and click the radio button for "Port ID 80."

4) Close your settings dialog box and, if prompted, restart your computer. You should now be able to pull in streaming video from the ILRC.
