Typing in foreign languages that use non-Roman character sets present special challenges to computer users. For Arabic students, the easiest way to enter characters is to utilize the Arabic Keyboard that comes with Windows. Launch your Word Processing application, such as Microsoft Word, Notepad, or other application in which you wish to use Arabic.
In the lower right-hand corner of the task bar, select the Language block and choose Arabic.

Click into your document. You will want to go the the font section of your application and choose one of the following fonts, if one is not automatically selected: Andalus, Arabic Fixed, Simplified Arabic, or Traditional Arabic.
As you type, Windows will automatically shift your text to the Right-to-Left method. Use the keyboard graphics below to learn where the Arabic letters and vowels are located.


You can also bring up the On Screen Keyboard by going to the Start Menu, selecting Programs, then Accessories, then Accessibility. Click on the On-Screen Keyboard application to launch it.
