Deutsch 202 Writing Workshop Overview
Day 1
In class: Handout: "Wie man einen Aufsatz schreibt" (also
available online). Go over the entire handout and then
focus on brainstorming and the Assoziogramm. The topic for
the Aufsatz "Ist das eine ideale Familie?" refers to
"Familie in Kürze" by Elisabeth Alexander. Assignment for
Day 2: Complete the Assoziogramm and write down what
questions you think the reader would have about the essay
you are going to write . You turn in a copy to your
instructor and keep the original for yourself.
Day 2
In class: You begin to write your Aufsatz in class. Your
instructor acts as facilitator, helping individuals with
grammar, style, vocabulary. Assignment for Day 3: Complete
Aufsatz. Bring two copies to class, one for peer review and
one for instructor.
Day 3
In class: Peer review, after which students get their
Aufsätze back. Start the Grammar-focused Aufsatz ("Männer
schweigen . . .Frauen reden") and another text. Assignment:
Rewrite peer review essay and do a new grammar-focussed
assignment for Day 4.
Day 4
In class: Turn in the two homework assignments. Do an
Inhaltsangabe on topic assigned (handout). Assignment for
Day 5: Another Inhaltsangabe on topic of students' choice.
Day 5
In class: Beschreibung of Miami University (handout).
Assignment for Day 6: Write a Beschreibung for Friday on
something local and familiar--a University event or "What
is a fraternity or sorority?"
Day 6
In class: Textanalyse in class of "Kinder der
I-Generation." Assignment: You get a new text to analyze.
Their analysis is due Monday.
