ABOUT THE WIRTSCHAFTSUNIVERSITÄT WIEN
The
Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien (WU)
was founded in Vienna, Austria, in 1898 and as
always played an important role in teaching and
research in the fields of management and economics.
In 1919 the WU received university status. It is
today the largest school of economics and business
administration throughout Europe.
Since its early days the Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien has
put much emphasis on its international relations. As a
result of its efforts of internationalization, the WU has
built up more than 45 exchange programs with foreign
universities over the course of its existence. The number
of exchange students and Austrian students studying at
the WU has remained strong throughout its history and
most WU graduates indicated that they had participated or
had the opportunity to participate in a study abroad
program for at least one semester.
In 1990 the
Zentrum für Auslandstudien (ZAS) was
established in order to take over the administrative
tasks of these exchange programs. The ZAS continued
the tradition of the Miami University -
Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien exchange under the
rubric of their International Summer University
program until 2006.
In 2007, the
Department of English Business
Communication, a section of the
Department für Fremdsprachliche
Wirtschaftskommunikation, took responsibility
for the preparations of the Austrian Summer Scholars
Program, selection of the group leaders for each
year's program, and interviews with potential
candidates.
Dr. Axel Beer, ao.Univ.Prof., heads
the administrative needs and requirements of the
program in the WU.
